Fat Fitness

Members of Big Body Fitness class, a fitness class designed for fat-bodied people in Minneapolis and St. Paul MN.

This Class Meets:

Tue, Thu & Fri 5:30 pm

Sundays 9:30 am

Fat Fitness is a class created by and for fat people—those who live in fat bodies and experience discrimination or exclusion not just in fitness spaces, but in healthcare, workplaces, fashion, and everyday environments. This class is not for people who fit into straight-sized clothing or move through the world without anticipating harm or judgment.

If you’ve ever checked the seating before going to a restaurant, worried about fitting in an airplane seat, or avoided a gym because of how people might treat you—this space is for you. Here, we build strength, celebrate fat joy, and move together in a space that affirms and honors fat bodies.

Not only are we strengthening our bodies, but we’re strengthening our minds and healing from the trauma fat people face regularly.

Workouts designed to help you feel powerful and confident in your body.

Connect with other fat bodied athletes without any diet culture shaming.

Coaching specifically for fat bodies, modified for each person individually.

What our Athletes Are Saying...

As a fat person, my relationship to fitness has always been complicated. Finding ways to incorporate joyful movement into my life has been an adventure, and having Fat Fitness be a part of it has been very special. Getting to workout with other fat people has been extremely healing; feeling safe to let my body freely jiggle and wiggle, being able to openly talk about the fat experience and have everyone in the room "get it"- it's priceless. Additionally, FF is teaching me to work with my fat body instead of against it, which is helping me see that my body is not a problem.

I have been an athlete my whole life, and there is something special about being in a fitness space with a bunch of other fat people. It feels revolutionary! The coaches are great at giving specific cues to teach us how to work with our bodies, and it is so refreshing to use movement to celebrate our bodies instead of trying to change them. The programming is focused more on strength and odd-object work and has less of an emphasis on gymnastics than the regular group classes, which I also really appreciate. I love going to a class where I know I'm going to be able to do all of the skills! Yay fat people!
