Big Body Fitness

Members of Big Body Fitness class, a fitness class designed for fat-bodied people in Minneapolis and St. Paul MN.

This Class Meets:

Tue & Thu 5:30 pm

Sundays 9:30 am

Big Body Fitness (BBF) is an affinity group fitness class designed explicitly for fat-bodied people at all athletic levels. Programming at BBF features exercises designed to meet the needs of fat people, that range from functional fitness to strength training.

This affinity class is not only about fitness, it’s about building a community where fat people can meet in a safe space and move their bodies in a way that feels good to them.

Not only are we strengthening our bodies, but we’re strengthening our minds and healing from the trauma fat people face regularly.

BBF has limited capacity, so please respect this space and join only if you are currently living in a fat body (size 16 and above). We welcome small fat, mid-fat, large fat, and infini-fat. Check out this link to learn more about fategories.

As a fat person, my relationship to fitness has always been complicated. Finding ways to incorporate joyful movement into my life has been an adventure, and having Big Body Fitness be a part of it has been very special. Getting to workout with other fat people has been extremely healing; feeling safe to let my body freely jiggle and wiggle, being able to openly talk about the fat experience and have everyone in the room "get it"- it's priceless. Additionally, BBF is teaching me to work with my fat body instead of against it, which is helping me see that my body is not a problem.

I have been an athlete my whole life, and there is something special about being in a fitness space with a bunch of other fat people. It feels revolutionary! The coaches are great at giving specific cues to teach us how to work with our bodies, and it is so refreshing to use movement to celebrate our bodies instead of trying to change them. The programming is focused more on strength and odd-object work and has less of an emphasis on gymnastics than the regular group classes, which I also really appreciate. I love going to a class where I know I'm going to be able to do all of the skills! Yay fat people!
