The 2026 Solcana Invitational Cycle: What’s Next In Group Fitness At Solcana

January 07, 20264 min read

For the Winter/Invitational Cycle (January-March, 2026) we turn from holding a few, focused strength gaining goals to applying strength to a broad array of physical challenges. This yearly practice gives us a chance to become more resilient athletes, ready to meet a higher variety of physically demanding situations. It also tends to be fun to learn new things and experience the results of our previous efforts in really measurable ways.

We will use a wide variety of exercises to improve our strength, stability, endurance, power output, resiliency and adaptability. Throughout this cycle you should feel a lot of different challenges and learn a lot about yourself as an athlete. This will lead to more confidence with a wider variety of expressions of physicality. And as always, this cycle will culminate with a community-wide exploration of athleticism: The Solcana Invitational Workouts.

The Weekly Flow

We are keeping the general flow of the week the same in terms of training modalities and goals for each kind of modality, but we're adding variety to the exercises and the formats. Take a look:

🚜Mondays/Tuesdays

  • Goals: Strength

  • Format: Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA), Upper Body/Lower Body Main Lift + Accessory Lifts

  • This will be the same general format as usual, but with a select set of lifts we rotate through instead of just 2 lifts every week. We are looking to build strict, powerful strength in all the major muscle groups and movement patterns.

💪Wednesdays/Thursdays

  • Goals: Hypertrophy/Muscle Building and Skill/Speed/Endurance

  • Format: A variety of High Repetition Strength Circuits, Skill Focus, and Interval Training

  • These days will be lighter, but much higher volume with the goals of building muscle, improving metabolic efficiency and building the skills we will use to test ourselves during The Invitational. We will even use a CYOA format some weeks so you can choose which lifts to focus on or come both days for balanced, total body hypertrophy and endurance training.

💥Fridays/Saturdays

  • Goals: Explosive Strength/Power/Skill

  • Format: One Lift or Supersets of Medium Repetition Strength

  • We will round out our weeks with medium volume sets of strength training at medium-high intensity. Here we are looking to bridge the gap between maximal strength and speed/endurance. This will give you a chance to build endurance within your strength as well as get a lot of exposure to strength movements for additional stability, power production, speed, and skill.

🌈Sundays

  • Goals: Full Body Mix/Variety/Connecting to Movement

  • Sundays will continue to be Fat Fitness programming for all. The idea is that rather than have Fat Fitness mirror Group Fitness on this day, we will do it the other way around. This will not drastically affect the workouts, because it turns out that Solcana athletes of all different sizes like and benefit from mostly the same exercises. So, on Sundays, Fat Fitness programming will just set the standard and slightly lean towards what FF coaches and athletes want to work on. Expect a variety of formats and exercises aimed at providing a full body strength and conditioning workout with an emphasis on fun and connection.

Should I be excited for The 2026 Solcana Invitational?

YES!!! Yes, YOU should be excited. If you are reading this, you have an interest in what we do at Solcana, the why and the how we put into thinking about your health, wellness, longevity, and overall quality of physical life. The Invitational is FOR YOU! It is NOT a competition. It is a chance to learn, grow, and explore yourself DISGUISED as a competition. 😉 Is a chance to build relationships between your mind and your body as well as with the many amazing, wonderful people working out next to you.

It is truly a "take-what-you-want-and-leave-the-rest" experience. Our main goal in programming The Invitational is to make it as accessible and inclusive to as many of our members as possible so that everyone can feel successful in meeting themselves right where they are.

What even is The Invitational?

The Invitational consists of 5 workouts that test and challenge different areas of physical capacity. The Invitational also provides opportunities for fun, team spirit and friendly competition. The Invitational takes place in March with Invitational Events every Friday in March. Details and registration are coming soon.

Workout 26.1, The Invitational Preview and Test-In/Test-Out Workout

On Friday and Saturday, 1/16 and 1/17, during Group Fitness classes, you will have a chance to preview one of The Invitational workouts for this year. We will do this workout now and then again at the beginning of The Invitational to give you one workout where you can test your progress. Here is what it will look like:

4 Rounds For Time

  • 8 Double DB Power Clean

  • 40 ft Double DB Front rack Lunges

  • 1000M row

8:00 time cap.
Score is the time you finish OR how many total reps you get through in the 8:00

Each 4 feet of lunges = 1 rep

Fun, right?!? We're so excited to get into this next season of movement with you.
